Alan Canas
Born and raised in
the San Francisco Bay Area, Alan Canas combines his intimate knowledge
of local demographics with practical business skills to provide a unique
and valuable professional service. Through his financial and client management
skills, and his extensive Human Resources knowledge, Mr. Canas is able
to provide clients with a practical and relevant HR program that takes
into consideration local cultural issues, employment needs, benefit plans,
and HR concerns unique to small businesses.
Starting with a degree in Business Management, Alan Canas initially focused
his career on gaining a thorough and practical understanding of the financial
side of business. As a General Ledger Technician with HS Resources in
San Francisco, Mr. Canas spent four years building up a solid knowledge
base in all areas of account reconciliation including, large corporate
accounts (exceeding $140 million in transactions), quarterly and annual
corporate audits, and assuring compliance with internal and federal regulations.
In 1997, Alan Canas decided to focus on another key aspect of business:
client relations and human resources. As a Middle Market Client Service
Representative for CIGNA HealthCare, Mr. Canas managed employer health
and welfare plans for key middle market clients. Through this position,
he gained extensive experience setting up and managing client benefit
packages, resolving eligibility and claim disputes, providing advocacy
services, and acting as liaison to other national departments for client
benefit issues.
Later in 1999, as an Account Manager with Johnson & Dugan, Mr. Canas
continued to expand his client relations and HR skills. As a manager of
large groupsthose with average premiums of $15 million or moreMr.
Canas developed and oversaw relations between multiple HR departments
and acted as primary liaison between clients and healthcare plan providers.
As his knowledge grew, he also became a leading coordinator between account
executives, healthcare carriers and clients, ensuring that business needs
were met and potential employee conflicts minimized.
In 2000 Alan Canas joined Korody Business Services as their primary resource
for HR and benefit services. Using his extensive HR and customer relations
background, Mr. Canas provides KBS clients with an invaluable resource
in designing and maintaining benefit packages for small businesses. Currently,
Mr. Canas has a portfolio of 16 divergent small businesses for which he
coordinates benefits and resolves employee issues. He also analyzes different
business HR plans to ensure compliance with the latest local and federal
laws. As needed, Mr. Canas also creates employee training modules on ergonomics,
personal safety, employee/employer responsibilities, and basic employment
law.
Mr. Canas believes in being proactive and resolving employment issues
before they become a crisis. As part of his suite of professional services,
he reviews each business for potential client and HR problems, and provides
practical solutions aimed at minimizing future problems before they can
become costly mistakes.
