Bureaus
In the United States consolidation has occurred resulting in the companies
serving the credit reporting needs of the entire country.
You should check your
credit bureau report every few years to make sure it is accurate or if
you believe someone may have stolen your identity.
California law requires
the credit bureaus to give you a copy of your credit report for free if
you were denied credit in the last thirty days based upon that companies
report. If you werent denied credit then the companies are allowed
to charge a $8.00 fee for the copy of your report.
When requesting your
report be sure to include your full name, address, social security number
and date of birth with your request. If applicable enclose a copy of your
denial letter.

Note: Generally, the credit bureaus will not speak with you over the phone
with you until after you have received a copy of your credit report this
is part of their internal security measures.
